Forest, Edge of Mass Extinction

Synopsis

1 year has passed since the forest fire in Uljin. Now all mountains of Korea have become ‘forest fire hazardous regions’. Forest fires used to happen once in 3~5 years. But in 2022, 10 fires occurred in 6 months because of the severe drought. The rainy season being as dry as never before, forest fires occur even in summer. On top of that, forest lives are suffering from sudden climate changes. On a warm winter day, thousands of frogs are dying because they thought spring had come. The indigenous Korean Firs wither white. The bigger problem is, however, that our forest management is going in the wrong direction in this climate crisis. Are our forests prepared for climate crisis? The 1 st part, shows us that even with all the serious climate problems our forests are facing, the forest administration and protection regulations are so lame. It points out that forest biodiversity and conservation are neglected in the name of development.
