Synopsis

After years of unrestrained pollution and relentless climate change, a mysterious force of the deep starts using the creatures of the ocean as hostile hosts and declares war on humanity. As human society crumbles, a team of scientists must discover the true nature of the attacks and the unfathomable creature behind them, before it‘s too late. THE SWARM is an 8-part TV series developed by Frank Doelger, a producer of GAME OF THRONES. The series is based on Frank Schätzing's bestseller and pictures one of the most relevant topics of our time. The biggest effect on sea species is climate change. 8-part TV series, but only up to part 3 episodes at the festival.

Frank Doelger 

Frank Doelger is a multi-Primetime Emmy Award winning Executive Producer, most well-known for the series he produced for HBO, including GAME OF THRONES, JOHN ADAMS and ROME. His other projects for HBO include the Emmy Award winning films MISS EVERS‘, A LESSON BEFORE DYING, and the Emmy and BAFTA Award winning CONSPIRACY, THE GATHERING STORM and MY HOUSE IN UMBRIA. He is now Creative Director of Intaglio Films, a scripted venture by Beta Film and ZDF Studios which develop, finance and produce drama for the international market.

 

Barbara Eder 

Barbara Eder grew up and studied in Austria before her directorial debut, INSIDE AMERICA, toured major film festivals and won the Special Jury Prize at the Max Ophüls Festival. Her second feature THANK YOU FOR BOMBING, was awarded for Best Film and Best Director in Austria and Switzerland, followed by two Romy Awards for Best Director of GAZE INTO THE ABYSS and TATORT_HER MIT DER MARIE. She is also known for launching and directing highly successful series like Netflix’ BARBARIANS. 

 

Luke Watson 

Luke is an award-winning film and television writer, director. He is currently co-writing on new ‘supernatural scandi-noir’ series STRANGERS for Sixty40 Films and Stockholm Syndrome, which he is due to direct in late 2023. Most recently he was Lead Director, Writing Consultant and Executive Producer on season 1 of THE SWARM, a prestige international science fiction series with multiple global co-producers (including ZDF, Rai, France Télévisions, Viaplay and Hulu Japan), which premiered at the Berlinale and achieved ZDFs best ever start for a streaming series. 

 

Philipp Stölzl

Philipp Stölzl was born in Munich in 1967. Originally a stage designer, later a music video director and commercial filmmaker, he now divides his professional life between cinema and theater. In his mid-thirties, Stölzl makes his first feature film, the tragicomedy BABY. Working for the cinema becomes his central passion. The historical mountain drama NORDWAND and the romantic comedy GOETHE! follow, followed by his first English-language film, the action thriller THE EXPATRIATE. Stölzl's films have won various awards. Currently, Stölzl is preparing a 6-part series adaptation of Mary Shelley's FRANKENSTEIN as showrunner and director.
