BLUEBACK is a feature film adaptation of Tim Winton’s best-selling and critically acclaimed novella. Now an adult, marine biologist Abby returns to the bay of her childhood after the news of her mother Dora’s stroke. At home, looking after her ill mother, Abby begins to remind Dora of the stories of the life they shared when Abby was a young child and a teenager. In an effort to rouse Dora, Abby recalls the time she met Blueback, a wild blue groper, and the bittersweet journey of that time long ago as Abby was growing up and the outside world was encroaching on their pristine bay. With the threat of poachers and environmental destruction, Abby and Dora work courageously to protect the natural world and its creatures, with Abby putting herself in danger to save Blueback.
