시베리아 영구 동토층이 녹고 있다. 땅속에 있던 고대 생물들의 뼈가 드러나고 있으며 야생 동물 들이 사라지고 있다. 세 명의 야쿠트인들이 서로 다른 임무를 가지고 드넓은 황야로 떠난다. 마을 주민 로만과 도시 소년 퀴윔은 그리 멀지 않은 곳에서 희귀 순록 사냥을 하고, 과학자 세묜은 동 토를 헤집어 매머드의 생존 세포를 수집해 멸종 동물을 복제하려 한다. 동식물의 대량 멸종이 진 행되고, 시베리아 매머드 상아에 관심이 높아지며, 멸종생물복원이 시작되는 시점에, 이 시대의 신화가 시작된다. <홀구트>는 허구와 다큐멘터리를 대담하게 엮어낸 작품이다. 매머드 구멍 아래 에서는 공상과학이 현실이 되고 현실은 신화가 된다. 

The Siberian permafrost is melting. Ancient bones rise up from the ground and wild animals seem to have disappeared. Three Yakutians venture into the vast wilderness on different quests. Villager Roman and city boy Kyym hunt for a rare reindeer while not so far away, scientist Semyon scourges the permafrost for a viable cell of the mammoth, which he needs to clone the extinct animal. In the midst of an ongoing mass-extinction of fauna and flora, of a Siberian Ivory Rush, and at the dawn of de-extinction, a contemporary myth unfolds. HOLGUT boldly combines elements of fiction and documentary and manoeuvrers effortlessly from captivating reality to visual poetry. Down the mammoth-hole, science fiction seems to become reality and reality seems to become myth.
