브라질 배우 앨리스 브라가는 전 세계 식탁과 가정에 침투한 엉망이 된 물류 시스템을 보여주고 우리가 무엇을 할 수 있는지 알려준다. 이제 시간이 없다. 불볕더위, 홍수, 허리케인, 산불이 지구 전체를 덮고 있다. 백만 개의 종이 멸종 위기에 처해 있다. 그러나 팜유, 콩, 고기, 유제품과 같은 생필품 생산 산업은 우리의 숲과 생태계를 파괴하고 지구를 멸망 직전으로 몰아가고 있다. 만약 우리가 미래를 원한다면 이대로 둬서는 안 된다. 이런 병적인 식량 생산 시스템은 피할 수 없는 것이 아니다. 이것은 기획된 것이고, 그 말은 더 나은 것을 기획할 수 있다는 뜻이다. 우리가 모두 건강하고 합리적인 가격에 식품을 구할 수 있는 시스템, 가축을 먹이는 사료를 만들고 자동차 연료 탱크를 채우기 위해 열대림을 훼 손하지 않아도 되는 그런 시스템 말이다. 팬데믹 위기를 통해 우리는 지금의 정치, 경제, 사회적 시스템이 지구상 수십억 인구를 위한 것이 아니라 소수를 위해 만들어진 것임을 깨닫게 되었다. 이제는 바꿀 때가 되었다. 우리는 다 함께 이기거나 다 함께 실패하게 될 것이다. 우리는 다시 정상적인 상태로 돌아갈 수 없다. 왜냐하면 우리가 정상이라고 생각했던 그 상태가 바로 잘못된 상태였기 때문이다.

Heatwaves, floods, hurricanes and fires are raging across the planet. One million species are at risk of extinction. Yet, the industrial production of commodities such as palm oil, soya, meat and dairy are destroying our forests and other ecosystems and pushing our planet to the brink of collapse. If we want to give our future a chance, this cannot go on. This sick food system is not inevitable. It was designed. So that means we can design a better one. A system where all of us have access to healthy food and affordable food. A system where forests are not wiped out to grow commodities to feed livestock and fill up car tanks. The COVID-19 crisis has shown that the systems we have in place - political, economic, social - were designed not for the billions of people on the planet, but for just a few. It is time to change that. We can all win or we can all lose. We can’t go back to normal, because normal is what was wrong all along.
