Synopsis

<위대한 화장실 전쟁>은 우리가 쉽게 말하지 못하는 인간의 배설물과 화장실에 대해 다각적이고 기발한 목소리를 담고 있다. UN은 11월 19일을 ‘세계 화장실의 날’로 지정해 화장실과 보건의 필수불가결함을 알린다. 빌 게이츠는 ‘화장실 혁신’사업을 통해 저개발국의 화장실 개선에 힘쓰며 새로운 위생 시스템 개발에 막대한 자본을 투자하고 있다. 지금도 세계 인구의 절반이 제대로 된 화장실을 사용하지 못하고 있고 이와 관련된 질병으로 수 많은 아이들이 죽어가는 현실을 직면한다. 불편한 ‘보편적 금기’를 깨고 화장실과 인류의 미래에 대해 진지하면서도 유쾌하게 풀어나가는 영화다. <전은정>

UN designated Nov. 19 as World Toilet Day to raise awareness about the need of toilets and sanitation. Bill Gates, through the 'Reinvent the Toilet' project, made large capital investments in new sanitary technology development in a bid to improve sanitation in developing countries. Even now, half of the world's population does not have access to proper toilets and a great many children are dying from related diseases. This film breaks the 'universal taboo' and work on the toilet issues and the future of humanity in a serious but delightful manner.

스위스 출신 아르노 로베르(Arnaud Robert)는 기자, 다큐멘터리 감독이으로 내셔널 지오그래픽, 르 몽드 등 유수 언론지와 함께 일하고 있다. <위대한 하장실 전쟁>은 2020년 스위스 프레스 어워드상 수상작이다.

Arnaud Robert is a Swiss reporter and documentary director who works with National Geographic, Le Monde and other leading press companies. received the Swiss Press Award in 2020.
