영화는 리투아니아와 러시아에 반반씩 속해 있는 유네스코 지정 세계유산 ‘산성 숲(쿠로니안 스핏 국립공원)’을 배경으로 히치콕의 <새>에서 느낄 수 있는 공포와 묵시록적 광경을 전경화한다. 생명력을 잃은 잿빛 숲에는 수천 마리의 가마우지들이 서식하고 있고, 그들의 산성 배설물로 인해 2~300년 된 소나무들이 죽어가고 있다. 숲을 둘러본 사람들은 저마다 각자의 느낌과 의견을 이야기한다. 새의 시선을 떠올리게 하는 카메라는 관광객들을 관찰하며 그들의 대화와 앙상한 나뭇가지 위 둥지를 튼 가마우지, 여명에서부터 황혼을 지나 깊은 밤에 이르기까지 낮과 밤의 하늘을 일정한 간격과 리듬으로 비춘다. 영화는 일반적인 자연 다큐멘터리의 표현 방식과 차별화된 특별한 감각으로 생태계 균형이 깨지면서 벌어지는 수많은 문제를 환기시킨다.

In the UNESCO heritage landscape 'Acid Forest' (Curonian Spit National Park) where half of it belongs to Lithuania and the other half Russia, the film visualizes the fear and apocalyptic scenes that one might feel from 'The Birds' by Hitchcock. In the wispy grey forest live thousands of great cormorants, whose acid-fortified feces kill the 2~300 year old pine trees. People speak what they see and what they feel after looking around in the forest. The film shows the tourists from a bird's eye view. We hear their conversations and see the birds nesting on the thin trees. From dawn to dusk and even deep into the night, the camera looks up in the sky, day and night, periodically and rhythmically. Unlike other normal nature documentaries, this movie has a unique expression and different sensation in describing the problems of ecological imbalance.
