극단적인 액티비스트로 유명세를 떨쳤던 해양동물보호단체 시 셰파드는 오늘날 새로운 모습을 취하고 있다. ‘바다 수호자’라는 신념은 여전히 단단하지만 행동 방식은 온건하고 진중해졌다. 감독은 ‘더 이상 쇼파에 앉아 세상이 불타는 것’을 지켜 볼 수 없었던, 각국에서 모여든 시 세파드 자원봉사자들의 일상을 찬찬히 따라간다. 불법 어획과 밀렵, 쓰레기가 버려지는 현장을 살피고 감시하는, 무한한 인내의 시간을 보내는 바다 수호의 끝은 요원해 보이기도 한다. 하지만 시 세파드 활동가들의 발걸음 하나하나가 변화의 동력이 되고 이들의 낙관적인 웃음이 그 어떤 결기보다 강력하게 다가온다.

Sea Shepherd, the marine life protection society once notorious for being vigilante militant activists, is transformed now. Still keeping their faith in being 'protectors of the ocean', their approach has become milder and more careful. The director slowly follows the life of the Sea Shepherd volunteers from all over the world who couldn't just 'sit back and watch the world burn'. It requires infinite patience to watch and guard the sea where illegal fishing, poaching, and trash dumping is happening all the time. It even seems impossible to really protect the ocean. But every step they make becomes a momentum for change and their undoubting smiles feel stronger than any declaration.
