쓰레기로 뒤덮인 바다, 멸종 위기에 처한 동물 종들, 나무가 사라진 열대우림의 처참하고 끔찍한 지구의 모습. 다큐멘터리 ‘애니멀’은 기후 변화로 우리의 일상이 위협받고 있음을 소녀 벨라의 울림 있는 목소리로 전달하며 시작한다. 지저귀는 새 소리도 푸르른 나무도 이제 더 이상 볼 수 없음을 실감한 16살 동갑내기 영국 소녀 벨라와 프랑스 소년 비풀랑은 현재 지구가 처한 기후 변화와 이 문제를 풀기 위해 세계를 횡단하기로 결정하며 길을 나선다. 개성이 전혀 다른 아이들은 여러 인물들을 만나면서 환경 문제가 단순하지 않으며 쉽게 해결될 수 없는 문제라는 사실 앞에 절망하기도 하지만 자연 생태계의 실체를 이해하고 배우려는 자세, 대안을 찾고 이를 실천하려는 적극적인 태도를 통해 지금 우리에게 필요한 것이 무엇인지를 깨달아간다.

The Earth is in a terrible situation: The ocean is covered with garbage, many animal species are on the brink of extinction, and the tropical rainforests are being destroyed. Bella's touching voice declares that our everyday lives are threatened by climate change in the beginning of this documentary, 'Animal'. Realizing that they wouldn't be able to hear the birds singing and see the green trees any more, the two 16-year-olds, Bella and Vipulan, have set off on a world tour in the hope of solving the problem of climate change. Confronted by different people, these two totally different teenagers had to despair when they learned that environment is not a simple, easily solvable issue. However, with their attitude to learn about nature's ecosystem and with the initiative to find an alternative and act on it, they get to realize what we need to do now.
