Synopsis
1990년대 이후부터 곤충 바이오매스(*단위 시간 및 공간 내에 존재하는 특정 생물체의 중량 또는 에너지량)의 75%가 사라졌다. 주된 원인은 단연코 ‘침투성’ 네오니코티노이드의 대량 사용이다. 해충을 죽이기 위해 만들어진 네오니코티노이드는 식물의 각 세포로 퍼지고 결국 식물에 접근하는 모든 생명체를 죽인다. 과학적 연구는 네오니코티노이드가 꿀벌의 집단폐사나 나비의 실종과 같은 치명적인 결과를 가지고 왔다는 것을 증명했다. 그러나 화학물질을 제조하는 기업들은 정보를 긁어모아 규제를 회피하기 위해 최선을 다하고 있을 뿐이다. 이 다큐멘터리는 종의 사슬, 그리고 어쩌면 최종적으로 인간의 생명을 위태롭게 하는 문제와 정책에 대해 과학적, 정치적으로 접근하여 알리고자 한다.
For the last 30 years or so, 75% of the insects have disappeared from Europe. Entomologist Lundgren is grieving that it is 'the worst mass extinction the Earth has ever experienced.' This film is digging up the impact of the neonicotinoid pesticide, one of the key factors of environmental degradation. Neonicotinoid is an endocrine disrupting chemical that kills insects and plants, which will then destroy biodiversity and eventually become a threat to humanity. It is frightening to see that the continuing testimonies and accusations made by researchers, journalists, environmental organizations and farmers dissipate in front of the huge capital of a multinational pesticide manufacturer.
